Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a prominent Igbo socio-cultural group, has alleged that a governor and a presidential candidate are behind the orchestrated protests against Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The protests, led by FCT indigenes, called for Wike’s resignation over allegations of land racketeering.

Adamu Kabir Matazu, speaking on behalf of the indigenous people, urged the National Assembly to investigate Wike’s land allocation policies. In response, Ohanaeze’s factional Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, issued a statement claiming that the protests were politically motivated. According to Isiguzoro, the governor and presidential candidate orchestrated the demonstrations to distract Wike, who is perceived as a key figure in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Isiguzoro urged opposition parties to allow Wike to concentrate on his responsibilities without political interference. Despite Wike’s Ikwerre ethnicity, which is associated with the Igbo community, Ohanaeze emphasized their commitment to protecting their own and called on Tinubu to dismiss the distractions orchestrated by opposition parties.
