Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has made a significant stride towards addressing poverty and humanitarian concerns in the state by announcing the establishment of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. This announcement was made during the launch of the grant for vulnerable groups, a poverty alleviation program initiated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, held in Lokoja.
Governor Bello commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to poverty alleviation and other humanitarian initiatives aimed at reducing hunger in the country. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the benefits of humanitarian programs reach both residents and citizens of Kogi State.
In his address, Governor Bello stated, “We need to properly key into this program, and to do that, we must have the ministry and agency that will be relating with the mother agency properly. By the special grace of God, I hereby create the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Kogi State, and we shall appoint a commissioner to man the ministry.”
Highlighting the commitment of the state government to comprehensive social intervention, Governor Bello announced that a bill for the creation of the Kogi State Social Investment Agency will be presented to the House of Assembly, along with the budget for the year 2024. This initiative underscores the state’s determination to address the multifaceted challenges faced by vulnerable populations and enhance the overall well-being of its residents.
