Dolphin Drilling, a prominent offshore drilling contractor, has officially terminated its contract with Peak Petroleum Industries Nigeria Limited for the semi-submersible rig, Blackford Dolphin, designated for operations off the coast of Nigeria. The termination comes in response to what Dolphin Drilling perceives as a persistent breach of contractual terms by the Nigerian company.
In March 2023, Dolphin Drilling initially entered into a new agreement with Peak Petroleum Industries Nigeria Limited for the Blackford Dolphin semi-submersible rig. The contract, with an effective day rate of $325,000, encompassed the minimum firm contract period and included a mobilization fee. However, ongoing breaches of the contract have led Dolphin Drilling to sever ties with its Nigerian counterpart.
The Blackford Dolphin, constructed in 1974, is a semi-submersible drilling rig featuring an Enhanced Aker H-3 design and has the capacity to accommodate 120 personnel. Notably, the rig has been engaged in operations for General Hydrocarbons Limited (GHL) throughout the quarter, achieving an impressive 98.3% operational performance.
