Vice President Kashim Shettima expressed confidence on Monday that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is diligently working to reshape Nigeria’s economic trajectory. He made these remarks during a meeting with the management of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) led by Commandant Alhaji Ayodele Adeleke at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The NISS delegation presented the findings of a study conducted by 86 participants in the institute’s Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 16. The study focused on “Globalisation and Regional Economic Integration: Implications for Sustainable Development in Africa.”

Vice President Shettima affirmed the commitment of the Tinubu-led Federal Government to leave a legacy of a nation firmly on the path of prosperity. He acknowledged the administration’s bold decisions aimed at changing Nigeria’s economic fortune and emphasized the focus on youth empowerment and human capital development.

The Vice President commended the faculty and participants of EIMC 16, noting that their recommendations aligned with the perspectives of the Tinubu administration, particularly the emphasis on investing in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and infrastructure development.

Highlighting the relevance of the study’s theme, Shettima addressed the multifaceted challenges facing the African continent, including cyber-terrorism, human and drug trafficking, money laundering, transnational extremism, banditry, and the impact of climate change.

Regarding economic diversification, Shettima foresaw a future where oil might not hold the same value it does today and stressed the importance of investing in education. He asserted, “With the right infrastructure and qualitative leadership, we can transform this nation.”

The Vice President emphasized the need for leadership at all levels to harness the country’s growing population positively and transform the economy. He urged a focus on job creation, youth engagement, and investment in education to address challenges like terrorism and banditry.

EIMC, a program designed for strategic-level security and intelligence officers, aims to equip participants with the skills needed to contribute to the implementation of national security policies and overall national development.

The participants in EIMC 16 were drawn from 35 agencies in Nigeria and four other African countries, namely Chad, Gambia, Niger, and Rwanda. Commandant Adeleke expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his commitment to excellence and responsibility. He emphasized the importance of investing in ICT infrastructure as a key driver for economic growth and encouraged research and development investments in African economies.
