The Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) has disbursed a substantial grant of $1.2 million to support the initiatives of 160 young individuals across the country. This noteworthy increase, as highlighted by the Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, signifies a significant stride from the previous year’s allocation of $600,000 to 130 recipients. The surge in funding reflects a steadfast commitment from stakeholders towards fostering youth empowerment and driving positive change.

Dr. Jamila Ibrahim made this announcement at the official unveiling of the grant beneficiaries in Abuja, a ceremony graced by the presence of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu. The Minister underscored President Bola Tinubu’s consistent emphasis on the pivotal role of Nigerian youth in steering the nation’s economy. She emphasized that the NYFF is a tangible manifestation of this commitment, acting as a bridge between youth aspirations and the necessary policies and resources.

“This year’s increased grant is not merely a numerical expansion; it symbolizes a bold move to catalyze a wave of change, encouraging our young citizens to play active roles in shaping the Nigeria we envision,” stated Dr. Ibrahim. The fund, she noted, serves as a crucial link between the ambitions of Nigerian youth and the resources required to transform those aspirations into reality.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the NYFF is not just a financial aid but a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future. “We are not simply distributing funds; we are sowing the seeds of a new era—an era where the voices of young Nigerians are amplified, their energies harnessed, and their dreams realized,” Kalu declared.

Kehinde Ayeni, Executive Director of LEAP Africa, shed light on the collaborative nature of the NYFF, describing it as a five-year initiative aimed at strengthening youth leadership in Nigeria. “The goal of the initiative is to strengthen, support, and enable young people in Nigeria for youth leadership, activism, and social change,” Ayeni explained.

Various speakers at the event passionately called on Nigerian youth to seize the mantle of leadership and actively participate in shaping the country’s future. With collective confidence, they expressed the belief that the increased grant allocation would ignite innovation and progress, ultimately leading to the realization of a brighter future for Nigeria.
