During a roundtable morning show on Arise News TV on Tuesday December 5, outspoken TV presenter Rufai Oseni took a critical stance, blasting NYSC Commandant Brig General YD Ahmed and the Akwa-Ibom state government for the lack of substantive updates on Corp members who have been held captive for 100 days.
Expressing his frustration, Oseni emphasized the lack of information provided to the public regarding the abduction, particularly criticizing the NYSC officials’ apparent silence on the matter. The issue was raised during a spirited debate with popular TV presenter Ruben Abati on Arise News TV.
The Corp members from Akwa-Ibom state were en route to Sokoto state for the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program for Nigerian undergraduates when they were abducted. Concerns have mounted as no substantial information about their kidnapping has been made public, and the victims remain in captivity after 100 days.
Families and relatives of the abducted individuals have expressed distress over what they perceive as insufficient efforts from both the NYSC authorities and security agencies to secure the release of their loved ones. Despite assurances from security agents and the NYSC management, as of December 5, 2023, none of the kidnapped Corp members has been released.
The prolonged captivity has sparked public outcry, prompting Rufai Oseni to use his platform to call attention to the situation. The lack of updates and apparent inaction has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the kidnapped Corp members.
