The Cross River State Police Command has issued a robust assurance to residents, pledging competent policing throughout the state during the annual Calabar Carnival, which kicked off on Friday. In an official statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, the police communicated their commitment to ensuring a secure environment during the festive event.

To accomplish this, law enforcement officers have been strategically deployed across leisure centers and critical infrastructure, with a specific emphasis on the capital city, Calabar. The objective is to provide effective policing throughout the duration of the carnival, ensuring the safety of participants and attendees.

The Commissioner of Police, Gyogon Grimah, has reportedly taken proactive measures by ordering comprehensive vehicular and foot patrols across Calabar, covering the period before, during, and after the carnival. This approach is designed to deter criminal activities and swiftly respond to any security concerns that may arise during the festival.

The statement also contained a stern warning against the use of fireworks, emphasizing the illegality of engaging in such activities. Commissioner Grimah urged parents and guardians to exercise caution, keeping their children away from fireworks merchants. This advisory is particularly pertinent given the prevailing security situation in the country.

In addition to focusing on the carnival-related activities, the police command is maintaining vigilance against criminal elements operating on motorcycles for robbery within Calabar and its environs. The public is urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities promptly.

The Command emphasized its commitment to enforcing both state and federal laws to maintain public safety during the Calabar Carnival. This comprehensive security approach seeks to address potential security threats while allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the festivities without compromising their safety.
