The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), under the guidance of His Eminence, Amb. Dr. John Metchie, International Director for African Affairs, has proudly declared Liberian President George Opong Weah as the recipient of the prestigious International Peace Prize Medal Award for 2023.

This esteemed recognition is a testament to President Weah’s pivotal role in the recently concluded Liberian presidential election, marked by a runoff and distinguished for its fair, transparent, and non-violent democratic process. Unlike instances witnessed in various African nations, Liberia’s electoral journey stood out as a true reflection of the people’s will without intimidation or electoral violence.

President Weah, who received the International Peace Award from IAWPA in 2018, became the first African head of state to be honored with such a distinction. His commitment to peace and democratic values has continued to shine, evident in his conduct during the 2023 presidential election. Notably, he gracefully accepted the election results, showcasing a rare trait in contrast to leaders who cling to power against the wishes of their people.

The International Peace Prize Medal Award for 2023 is a recognition not only of President Weah’s individual accomplishments but also of Liberia’s collective dedication to fostering a peaceful and democratic society.
