The inaugural edition of the spelling bee competition, organized by the Office of the National Vice President, Inter-campus Affairs, saw the active participation of over 150 tertiary institutions from all six geopolitical zones. The primary objective of the competition, as stated by the organizers, was to enhance relationships and foster intellectual exchange among students.

Comrade Vanessa Egbeahie, the convener of the event, revealed that a total prize fund exceeding N5 million was distributed among the top six winners, each representing a specific zone. She emphasized that the program’s core purpose was to promote stronger ties among the 430 campuses spread across Nigeria.

“So, we didn’t just come to Abuja for a convention but to also have that relationship, get to know ourselves, compete and also do things that will be beneficial to all.

“It is very important in our modern-day society for us to be educated. Education is the key.

“We have over 150 institutions in Nigeria that registered to compete for this Program.

“Now, the first winner goes home with one million and the second winner N750, 000, the third winner N500,000 and the forth, fifth and sixth winners go home with N300,000 each,” she noted

She outlined the selection criteria, stating that participants must be enrolled as students in an institution for a minimum of one year. The inclusivity of the competition welcomes students from diverse fields of learning, whether from polytechnics, non-technical institutions, colleges of education, or universities, provided they meet the requirement of having at least one year of academic experience.

Expressing her vision for the initiative, she remarked, “I have initiated this, and I aspire for it to become an annual program, creating a unifying platform for us all.”
