Udengs Eradiri, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the recently concluded Bayelsa State gubernatorial election, has issued a cautionary statement to the acting factional chairman of the party, Eneyi Zidougha. Eradiri emphasized that he should not be entangled in the ongoing crisis within the party and urged the public to dismiss Zidougha’s recent claims of expelling him from the LP.
In the statement released on Monday, Eradiri pointed out that the party’s constitution does not grant Zidougha the authority to expel any member. Instead, he urged Zidougha to confront the crisis he allegedly triggered when he betrayed the party by endorsing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Governor Douye Diri, before the election.
Eradiri highlighted the accusations against Zidougha, alleging that he received N100 million to endorse the PDP candidate. The LP gubernatorial candidate accused Zidougha and some of his executive committee members of acting against the party’s interests for personal gain.
The statement further clarified that the local government chairmen of the party, angered by Zidougha’s actions, decided to take control of the party’s leadership. Eradiri called on Zidougha to redirect his focus from him and address the crisis he allegedly created due to financial inducements.
This development underscores the internal struggles within the Labour Party in Bayelsa State and the tensions arising from alleged betrayals and anti-party activities. The public statement by Eradiri aims to distance himself from the expulsion claims and shift the spotlight onto Zidougha’s conduct during the elections.
