The Asokoro extension area of the Federal Capital Territory witnessed the abduction of two landlords on Sunday, raising concerns about the escalating insecurity in the region. The armed assailants reportedly demanded a staggering N20 million ransom for the release of the kidnapped victims, underscoring the audacity and brazenness of criminal elements.
According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen employed a tactical approach, using one of the landlords as a means to gain entry to the victims’ residences. Holding one landlord at gunpoint, they coerced him to guide them to his own residence. Dissatisfied with his dwelling, the assailants then compelled him to lead them to another property, where they proceeded to abduct a second victim.
A resident named James, who observed the unfolding events, recounted the harrowing incident, emphasizing the calculated and forceful nature of the attackers in abducting the landlords directly from their homes.
“Two hours after their operation, they called the two families to pay N10 million each. One of the families offered to pay N2 million and assured them of prompt payment, but the assailants rejected the offer, instead threatening to harm the victim if the full N10 million was not paid,” disclosed a source with knowledge of the situation.
The families now find themselves in a challenging predicament, grappling with the difficult decision of whether to accede to the substantial ransom demands. Concurrently, collaborative efforts involving law enforcement and vigilante groups are underway to secure the safe release of the abducted landlords.
