Mr. Omar Touray, President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), expressed the organization’s deep concern for the Republic of Niger during a visit to the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja. Touray, in presenting the Community State Report for 2023, expressed the collective attitude of ECOWAS Heads of State against any unlawful change of administration in Niger.
Affirming Niger’s integral membership within the ECOWAS Community, Touray underscored that any developments affecting the people of Niger are of utmost importance to ECOWAS and its leadership. He assured that ECOWAS remains resolute in implementing the relevant provisions outlined in its protocols to address challenges and foster stability in the region.
Touray also delved into the ambitious goal of establishing a single currency within the ECOWAS region. Recognizing the need for political will and adherence to economic fundamentals, he specifically pointed out the importance of addressing issues such as inflation and public debt. While acknowledging inflation as a global challenge, Touray commended the financial authorities within the ECOWAS region for their collaborative efforts to mitigate this concern.
