Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has presented the Appropriation Bill for the 2024 fiscal year, totaling N300.219 billion. The budget allocation encompasses both capital and recurrent expenditures, with recurrent expenses amounting to N121.341 billion (40.4 percent), and capital expenditure standing at N178.878 billion (59.6 percent).
This financial plan represents a substantial increase of 48.2 percent compared to the budget for the previous year, 2023. Governor Bala Mohammed highlighted that the rise is attributed to the removal of subsidies and the inflationary trend, influenced by the depreciation of the local currency.
During the presentation to the state House of Assembly, Governor Bala Mohammed emphasized the need for a conservative approach due to the increase in prices affecting project implementation. He stated, “The adoption of this conservative approach is to ensure that projects and programs captured are appropriately costed.”
Governor Bala Mohammed underscored the inclusivity of the budget preparation process, citing public hearings conducted in the three senatorial zones. These hearings gathered inputs from stakeholders, which were then incorporated into the budget proposal.
In response to the presentation, the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Babayo Muhammad Akuyam, assured that the House would expedite the consideration of the budget for passage.
