Key All Progressives Congress (APC) figures on Friday sent a strong message to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) amid the ongoing gubernatorial disputes, asking them to refrain from inciting violence and to wait for the outcome of the legal process.
Speaking to our correspondent, the forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Issa Ladiu Ibrahim, lambasted the opposition NNPP for resorting to violent acts in the aftermath of the Court of Appeal’s recent verdict on the state’s Gubernatorial election.
As the political atmosphere heats up ahead of the gubernatorial elections, APC stakeholders highlight the need of maintaining peace and order during the electoral process. Concerns about alleged episodes of violence have prompted the APC to engage the NNPP directly.
The call for restraint comes as a reminder of the significance of adhering to democratic principles and respecting the rule of law. The stakeholders advocate for a peaceful electoral environment where citizens can exercise their voting rights without fear or intimidation.
The APC stakeholders encourage the NNPP to place their trust in the judicial system and await the court’s decisions rather than resorting to violence. This stance reflects a commitment to upholding the democratic process and ensuring that the will of the people is determined through lawful means.
Ibrahim said “In a democracy, when there is disagreement, you go to court. When there is a verdict, you accept it and go back home. But now, some parties are preaching violence.”
By urging the NNPP to wait for the court’s verdict, the APC stakeholders are reinforcing the importance of due process and legal channels in addressing electoral disputes. The call for calm aims to create an atmosphere conducive to fair and transparent elections, fostering public confidence in the democratic process.
In the spirit of democracy, the APC stakeholders extend an appeal to all political parties and their supporters to prioritize peace, allowing for a free and fair electoral process.
