Security agencies successfully prevented potential loss of lives and property as unruly supporters of a political party in Kogi State, described as thugs, stormed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Lokoja. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when political parties had gathered at the INEC headquarters to inspect election materials as instructed by the Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja.

The situation escalated into violence as certain party supporters disrupted the process, chanting war songs and issuing threats to set the INEC office ablaze, with intentions of rendering the state ungovernable.

Under the evident influence of hard drugs, a group of boys vehemently opposed the movement of election materials to the tribunal, alleging compromise by the ruling All Progressives Congress. Shouting their resistance, they created a disturbance at the INEC office, particularly at the Post Office and Marine Road entrances.

The situation required intervention from security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, to restore order and open up the entrances that had been initially blocked by the boys.
