Manchester City’s Phil Foden has expressed the team’s determination to replicate last year’s historic Treble triumph after an inspiring performance led to a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over RB Leipzig, securing top spot in Champions League Group G.

The 23-year-old England international, who scored one goal and provided two assists in the crucial win, spoke to LiveScore about the team’s ambitions for the current season. Despite the success of the 2022-23 campaign holding a special place in the club’s history, Foden emphasized that he and his teammates are resolute in their goal to achieve similar heights again.

“Last year was a hugely successful year for us, but we’re so determined to do it again. That’s what I like about these lads. We don’t sit on what we did last year; that’s gone now. When we did it, it was an unbelievable feeling. Once we win something, we celebrate it as a team, and we all want that feeling again,” stated Foden.

Reflecting on the recent match, Foden acknowledged that the team fell short of their usual standards in the disappointing first half, with Leipzig taking a shock 2-0 lead. Lois Openda’s brace prompted some strong words in the home dressing room during halftime.

“I think the lads knew that every one of us could do better. In terms of on the ball, we gave it away cheaply, and we said at half-time that we’re going to have to keep it a lot better. We know we only need one goal at the Etihad because our home record is fantastic,” explained Foden.
