The Court of Appeal in Lagos has upheld the electoral triumph of Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, in the March 18 election. The appellate court, on Tuesday, dismissed the petition filed by Tonye Cole, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.
Governor Fubara, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was officially declared the winner of the governorship election after securing 302,614 votes, triumphing over his closest rival, Tonye Cole, who garnered 95,274 votes.
Tonye Cole, dissatisfied with the election’s outcome, had taken the matter to the tribunal, seeking to nullify Governor Fubara’s victory and be declared the winner. However, the Court of Appeal’s decision to dismiss Cole’s petition solidifies Governor Fubara’s legitimacy as the duly elected governor of Rivers State.
