Bwala’s departure from the party stemmed from his objection to the Muslim-Muslim ticket presented by the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing his belief that such a decision does not foster the unity of Nigeria. Despite leaving, he maintains that his choice was not personal but driven by a conviction for the nation’s cohesion.
After the election, Vice President Kashim Shettima, showing respect for Bwala’s decision, reached out to him. Surprisingly, Shettima sought Bwala’s support for Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President, underlining a desire for a more balanced government. Bwala takes pride in this acknowledgment, asserting that it validates the correctness of his initial concerns. In his view, the decision to support Akpabio aligns with his conviction for a government that reflects diversity and avoids being one-sided. Despite the complexities, Bwala remains resolute, expressing no regrets about the stance he took.
