Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has reaffirmed his commitment to robust infrastructure development by announcing the commencement of groundbreaking road and flyover projects totaling N77.9 billion. The governor made this assurance during a ceremony held on Monday in Effurun.
The four major projects, awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, are strategically located in Uvwie and Warri South local government areas of the state. Governor Oborevwori emphasized the critical role of road infrastructure in propelling economic growth across various sectors.
The projects include the design and construction of a flyover bridge from Enerhen Junction, Effurun, to Marine Gate, Warri, in Uvwie and Warri South LGAs. Another key project involves road expansion and improvement works on the section of DSC/NPA expressway from Effurun Roundabout to DSC Roundabout on the Effurun/Patani (East/West) highway. This also includes the construction of a three-quarter Cloverleaf Interchange at the existing Effurun Flyover Bridge and two pedestrian bridges in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area. Additionally, a flyover bridge at PTI Junction on the Effurun/Patani (East/West) Highway, Effurun, in Uvwie Local Government Area, is in the pipeline.
Governor Oborevwori expressed joy and excitement, marking the realization of a promise made after his inauguration earlier in the year. He highlighted the significance of the projects in addressing traffic challenges and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the Warri/Effurun metropolis.
Acknowledging potential inconveniences during the construction period, the governor urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise patience, follow traffic regulations, and consider alternative routes when feasible. The state government has initiated a maintenance and rehabilitation program for these alternative routes to ease the burden on travelers.
Dr. Lars Richter, the Managing Director of Julius Berger PLC, assured that the projects would be completed within the stipulated 27-month period. The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Emmanuel Sideso Abe I, and the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, both expressed gratitude for the ambitious projects, promising support and cooperation for their successful completion.
Notable figures in attendance included former Governor of Delta, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, royal fathers, and chiefs. The projects are expected not only to transform the physical landscape but also to unite the people of the region.
