The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has vehemently denied claims circulating on TikTok that suggest the demolition of Lobito Plaza in Abuja. The FCTA clarified that the video, recorded in 2021, was a deliberate attempt to disseminate misinformation and induce unwarranted panic.
Anthony Ogunleye, the Director of Press for the FCT Minister, stated, “Contrary to the claims made in the video, the building was not brought down. Rather, the contravening portion was removed to ensure compliance with regulations.”
Ogunleye further explained that the Department of Development Control identified an infraction related to the building’s use, and appropriate measures were taken responsibly. To counteract the false narrative, the FCTA provided a current photo of the building, emphasizing its standing status.
The FCTA condemned the intentional spread of false information and expressed concern about the ethnic coloration attached to the videos, deeming it counterproductive and capable of generating unnecessary fear and disaffection.
In a firm stance, the statement emphasized, “FCTA remains committed to transparent communication and responsible governance.” The administration urged the promoters of such misinformation to cease their actions, emphasizing the negative impact on society.
The statement concluded with an assurance to residents that the FCTA prioritizes the well-being and safety of the community while enforcing regulations diligently. The public was encouraged to verify information from reliable sources before sharing it further.
