No fewer than 15,750 teachers participated in the November Diet of the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) for teachers held across the country on Saturday. The examination, conducted by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), serves as a crucial evaluation of the professional knowledge of individuals within the teaching profession.
Dr. Jacinta Ezeahurukwe, the Director of Certification and Licensing at TRCN, spoke with newsmen during the examination in Abuja, emphasizing the significance of the PQE in ensuring that teachers are duly licensed before entering classrooms. She highlighted the nationwide scope of the examination, taking place in various states over multiple days.
Ezeahurukwe stated, “In all, we have 15,750 teachers writing the examination for Batch B across the country. Our target is for those that have not registered. The exam is mandatory because teaching is a profession, and for every profession, there must be a professional qualifying examination.”
Underlining the importance of the examination, she explained that it goes beyond academic qualifications, asserting that a professional qualifying examination is a fundamental component of any respected profession. As the educational landscape continues to evolve, the TRCN’s commitment to upholding high standards in teaching remains evident through initiatives like the Professional Qualifying Examination.
