Osun State Targets Mining Processes in 2024, Focuses on Environmental Standards

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has disclosed plans to commence mining processes in the state by the year 2024. Emphasizing the enforcement of environmental standards in the mining industry, the governor highlighted ongoing efforts to clean up polluted environments associated with mining activities.

 

The revelations came in response to a situation brief submitted by Prof. Lukman Adekilekun Jimoda, the Special Adviser on Mining and Solid Minerals. Governor Adeleke, reflecting on a commitment made a year ago to revamp the mining sector, expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved, citing increased revenue generation and the clearance of accumulated service charges on mining licenses.

The governor acknowledged the positive strides in upgrading exploration leases to mining leases, anticipating that this would attract more investors to the state. He particularly commended the enforcement of environmental standards, emphasizing a commitment to sustainable and responsible mining practices.

 

Prof. Jimoda assured Governor Adeleke that every effort was being made to implement comprehensive reforms in the mining sector, aligning with the administration’s vision for optimal utilization of the state’s solid mineral wealth.
