Bauchi Assembly Set to Domesticate Child Rights Acts

The Hon Speaker of the Bauchi state House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, has assured the people of Bauchi state that, the state assembly is set to accelerate Child Rights Bill to domesticate the Child Rights Acts passed by the National Assembly as assented by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003.
Speaker Suleiman made this disclosure at an Orientation Workshop organised by Plan International Nigeria for members of the house in Abuja on Thursday 23, 2023.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Bauchi state is the only state in Nigeria yet to domesticate the Child Rights Act passed by the National Assembly and assented to by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003.

Highlighting the exigencies of the Act for the rights of the children of Bauchi state, Suleiman assured Plan International Nigeria and other development partners of putting an end to the lingering bill before the house. He said the house would set plans in motion for a speedy passage of the Child Rights Law.
In another related development, Mr Charlse Usie, the Country Director of Plan International Nigeria, said the orientation was necessary to bring the new members in tune with the passage of the child rights law.
“We are here today for a special assignment that is aimed at passing a decision to better the lives of our children. I want to tell us that we are committed about these issues and the delay in not passing the bill has come to an end,” he said.
Addressing Plan International Nigeria and other development partners, the Speaker assured all of the readiness and commitment of the house to projects that would see to the advancement of the people of the state.
