Dr. Abdulkarim Obaje, the National Coordinator of the Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) Programme, has announced the Federal Government’s commitment to assisting states in addressing poverty, improving basic infrastructure, ensuring food security, and supporting small and nano companies.
During a courtesy visit to Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas in Jalingo, Obaje highlighted the key areas of focus for the NG-CARES program. He emphasized that full support from states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) would significantly expand access to livelihood support, food security services, and grants for vulnerable households and firms across the country.
NG-CARES operates as a Performance for Results (PforR) program, where states and the FCT receive reimbursement for development funding based on agreed-upon protocols and earned results. Obaje explained that the reimbursement is tied to the achieved outcomes, resulting in amounts higher than the initial investments made by sub-national entities.
Regarding Taraba’s participation in the program, the national coordinator noted that the state had received $3.98 million out of the nominal allotment of $20 million earmarked for each state since the inception of the NG-CARES initiative.
