The Kaduna State House of Assembly has assumed legislative duties in Kagarko local government amid an ongoing crisis, concurrently announcing the indefinite suspension of eight councillors. This move is attributed to their involvement in the controversial impeachment of Council Chairman Nasara Rabo.
The suspended councillors, including Danjuma Padalo, Adamu Abdulaziz, Livinus Makama, Samson Hazo, Amos Egoh, Idris Abubakar, Zakaria Musa, and Rabo Musa, allegedly orchestrated the impeachment without adhering to due process and violated office protocols.
The impeachment, executed on November 2, 2023, led the State House of Assembly to recall Chairman Nasara Rabo on November 3, 2023, asserting a lack of merit in the allegations of financial misappropriation during the investigation.
However, sources suggest that the suspended councillors, driven by desperation, disregarded impeachment guidelines and denied a fair hearing during the process.
In response, the 10th Assembly, via the clerk of the House, issued a letter dated November 20, 2023, directing the Commissioner of the Ministry for Local Government Affairs to suspend the eight councillors indefinitely. This decision is based on the oversight function of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Local Government.
The suspension prevents the councillors from engaging in any official activities pending further investigation, and they are instructed to surrender all government properties/documents to the clerk of the Legislative Council. The Ministry is tasked with informing the affected councillors and the Local Government Service Board about the development.
