Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has ordered the remand of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, in Kuje prison pending the determination of his bail request. Emefiele will remain in prison until November 22, when the court will deliver a ruling on his bail motion.

The lead counsel for Emefiele, Mathew Burkaa SAN, moved the bail application, which was vehemently opposed by Rotimi Oyedepo on behalf of the Federal Government.

After hearing arguments for and against the application, Justice Muazu decided not to deliver an immediate bench ruling due to the numerous authorities cited by both parties. The judge expressed the need for time to study the authorities and review the exhibits submitted by Emefiele in support of his bail request.

As of the latest report, officials from the Kuje prison have been contacted to arrange for transportation to convey Emefiele to the prison. Further details are expected to emerge in due course.
