The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi SAN, announced yesterday that the federal government is set to recommence the prosecution of alleged terrorists, including members of Boko Haram, within the next two weeks. Speaking at the 40th Technical Commission and Plenary Meeting of the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) in Abuja, Fagbemi emphasized the government’s commitment to bringing suspected terrorists to justice.

Fagbemi highlighted the government’s achievements in the past two years, securing over 500 convictions and N45 billion forfeitures. He stressed the importance of regional and international cooperation in combating money laundering, terrorist financing, and the financing of weapons of mass destruction.

The announcement comes in the aftermath of the governorship election tribunal’s decision in Kano state, where the incumbent governor was ousted, and the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate declared the winner. The Court of Appeal is set to deliver its verdict on this matter in September.

National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu also spoke on the decline of violent extremism since President Bola Tinubu assumed office, stating that the country was going through tough times but assuring Nigerians that the government is working to address challenges, especially in the realm of security. Ribadu urged patience from the citizenry, highlighting improvements in crude oil production and a decrease in violent incidents in certain regions.
