Tunde Ojo, Minister of Interior, has announced intentions to establish extra passport processing and collection centers in order to relieve the difficulties encountered by Nigerians in the Diaspora during passport processing. This strategic initiative aims to alleviate congestion and streamline service operations both domestically and internationally.
The announcement came during the 6th edition of the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit, organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and the Nigeria Diaspora Summit Initiative (NDSI) in Abuja. Minister Tunde Ojo expressed the government’s commitment to providing a seamless passport process and issuance system for Nigerians, particularly those residing outside the country.
To enhance efficiency and reduce human contact, the Minister disclosed the implementation of a fully biometric immigration application process in most foreign countries. This technology-driven approach aligns with the government’s goal to offer a hassle-free experience for passport applicants and recipients.
“Nigerians at home and in the diaspora deserve the best. They don’t have to suffer or sweat to get the Nigerian passport,” assured Minister Tunde Ojo, emphasizing the government’s dedication to improving service delivery.
The new passport centres will undergo strict supervision, starting with the implementation of the E8-Mandate in the UK. This initiative is poised to enhance the overall experience for Nigerians seeking passport services abroad.
Additionally, the Minister urged the public to report any unethical behavior by officers in the Ministry and its parastatals, effective February 2024. This call for accountability is part of the government’s broader efforts to curb corruption and enhance the effectiveness of service delivery.
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in response to the Minister’s announcement, expressed optimism about the positive impact this initiative would have on the Diaspora community, particularly regarding passport issuance.
