A wide array of Nigerian celebrities have expressed profound sorrow following the passing of their fellow artist, Oladipupo Oladimeji, known as Oladips.
Oladips passed on Tuesday night, as confirmed by his management through a statement shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday. The management revealed that Oladips had been contending with internal struggles for the past two years.
In a video message posted on his Instagram page while mourning Oladips, musician Idowest drew attention to the prevalence of depression within the Nigerian celebrity community. He urged compassion and highlighted the need to support those grappling with challenging times.
He said, “We are still mourning Mohbad, and now Oladips has joined him. What killed the boy? Depression.
“I’m about to share my own two cents. When Oladips was talking about his struggles, some people said he was chasing clout and now he has died. He is not alone. We plenty wey be say we dey always dey depressed.
“I’ve been sending my music materials to my colleagues to help me share on their social media platforms but they always ignore me. When I die now, they will start posting about me. You all like showing love to the dead.”
Singer Viktoh criticized those who dismissed Oladips’ health struggles as mere clout-chasing when shared on social media. In a video message on his Instagram page, Viktoh stressed the importance of being understanding and checking up on friends and colleagues.
In a video on Instagram Viktoh said “You can’t even retire from being a man for a few seconds to speak about the problems you’re going through without people thinking you’re chasing clout or weak.“I’ve had my own experience but I thank God for my life. But you all need to check up on people, call people. May God bless the soul of Oladips. It’s really sad.”
On-air personality and rapper Nnamdi Nwabasili, also known as N6, referenced those who accused Oladips of seeking attention while battling ill health. He expressed frustration at the societal reluctance to speak out about personal challenges.
Rapper Blaqbonez, reacting via X (formerly Twitter), conveyed his deep sorrow over Oladips’ passing, lamenting the artist’s inability to witness the success of his imminent album.
Veteran singer Jaywon, rapper Chinko Ekun, and others mourned Oladips’ untimely demise via their social media handles, expressing shock and sadness.
Oladips, aged 28, left a significant impact on the Nigerian music scene.
