The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has affirmed that the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano gas pipeline project, with an estimated cost of $2.8 billion, will be officially inaugurated in December 2023. The announcement comes after the project missed its initial completion deadline set for 2022.
Oritsemiyiwa Eyesan, the Executive Vice President of NNPC Limited, delivered this assurance during the ongoing 41st Nigeria Association of Petroleum Explorationists 2023 expo in Lagos. Speaking on the theme ‘Energy Infrastructure Development, Financing & Monetisation Strategies in Nigeria: Reducing the Risks of Entry,’ Eyesan emphasized NNPC’s dedication to the Gas Master Plan of Nigeria.
Eyesan conveyed, “In the coming months, you will see a great difference in how we operate because NNPC is poised to drive more investments into the oil and gas sector. One of such significant investments is the AKK gas pipeline that will be commissioned this December.”
The Minister of State, Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo, also stressed the importance of completing the AKK project last month. The Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano pipeline, spanning 614 km, was initiated by NNPC Limited in July 2020 with the aim of transporting natural gas from southern to central Nigeria.
