The Federal Government has invited leaders from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) for a vital meeting set for today afternoon in response to the ongoing statewide strike engineered by Organised Labour.

The meeting, facilitated by the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), is set to delve into the root causes fueling the strike. Central concerns to be discussed include the alleged assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero by security personnel in Owerri, Imo State, and the unresolved salary arrears for workers.

The nationwide strike, declared by the NLC and TUC on Tuesday, November 14, extends beyond the incident in Imo State, encompassing broader labor issues. These include the purported misclassification of 11,000 workers as ghost employees, unresolved gratuities, non-compliance with the ₦30,000 minimum wage act, and the controversial designation of 10,000 pensioners as ghost retirees.

The outcome of this high-stakes meeting carries the potential to alleviate tensions and pave the way for resolutions to the urgent issues prompting the nationwide strike.
