Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has urged journalists to prioritize good governance in their news reporting to contribute to the advancement of Nigeria’s democracy. Speaking at the 19th All Nigeria Editors Conference in Uyo, Governor Eno emphasized the importance of responsible journalism that enhances societal well-being.
Addressing the theme of the conference, “Stimulating Economic Growth, Technological Advancement: Role of the Media,” Governor Eno called on journalists to adopt a new template of reportage—one that focuses on development and holds leaders accountable without being overly obtrusive.
“I want to plead that you engender a new template of reportage, one that is development-oriented, where our leaders are called to account without being overly obtrusive. You need the nation first in order to freely practise your profession,” said Governor Eno.
He expressed his administration’s openness to constructive criticism and commitment to driving a narrative of governance that prioritizes the well-being of the state’s residents, ensuring they benefit from the dividends of democracy and build trust in government.
Governor Eno commended the media for its support and also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in governance. He extended his prayers for the well-being of the nation, expressing hope for the fulfillment of the dreams of Nigeria’s founding fathers—a powerful, united, and prosperous nation.
