The Kano State Chapter has joined the nationwide strike as directed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) national body, causing major disruptions in a number of industries.
A correspondent from The PUNCH, who monitored the situation in Kano, reported that the impact of the strike was notably felt in primary and secondary schools, as well as tertiary institutions. Observations revealed that both teachers and students were absent from schools, compelling early-morning attendees to return home.
The strike’s ripple effect extended to banks, hospitals, and other public places across the state, causing operational disruptions. Notably, the Audu Bako State Secretariat, a hub for several ministries, was closed as a result of the strike. Despite some workers initially reporting to work in the morning, they later had to return home, realizing the commencement of the strike.
