The National Assembly has introduced eight new coaster buses, a historic initiative sponsored by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Magaji Tambawal, to reduce transportation issues for personnel. The provision of these vehicles is the first time any Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA) has made such a gift, demonstrating a dedication to improving the working circumstances of the personnel.
These buses are not only aimed at easing the commuting difficulties faced by the staff but also serve as palliative measures to mitigate the impact of the recent fuel subsidy removal. Acknowledging the financial strains posed by the subsidy removal, the CNA, through the implementation of these measures, seeks to cushion the effects on the dedicated workforce.
The buses were officially handed over to the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), emphasizing the National Assembly’s dedication to the welfare of its members. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, during the ceremony, highlighted that this gesture is a clear demonstration of the 10th National Assembly’s commitment, under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, to prioritize the wellbeing of parliamentary staff.
Jibrin further explained that when the request for welfare buses was presented to the Senate President, his swift approval underscored his unwavering dedication to the welfare of the National Assembly’s staff. This move is not only a testament to the leadership’s responsiveness but also a strategic effort to enhance the overall work environment for the dedicated individuals contributing to the smooth functioning of the National Assembly.
