Former Nigerian international, Alloy Agu, has issued a stern warning to the Super Eagles, advising them not to underestimate Lesotho in their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier scheduled for Thursday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Nigeria and Lesotho have a history of three encounters since 2007, all of which ended in victories for the 2013 AFCON Champions. However, Agu stressed the significance of approaching this fixture with utmost seriousness, considering the unpredictable nature of football.
Speaking in an interview, Agu emphasized the importance of the Super Eagles securing a decisive victory against Lesotho to set the tone for the qualifiers. He urged the team to capitalize on every goal-scoring opportunity and not take their opponents lightly.
“The Super Eagles know the importance of this fixture, and I am confident they will be going for the three points. This is not a time to underestimate the capability of Lesotho but for Nigeria to take every goal-scoring chance that comes their way,” Agu stated.
He further highlighted the potential impact of a significant win, stating, “A big win for the team will definitely send a message to other teams in our group.” With Nigeria placed in Group C alongside Zimbabwe, Benin, South Africa, and Rwanda, a convincing victory over Lesotho would not only bolster their position but also establish a strong competitive presence in the qualifiers.
