Former federal lawmaker, Ben Murray-Bruce, has expressed disapproval of the indefinite strike declared by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Murray-Bruce emphasized that embarking on a nationwide strike, particularly based on a singular incident that is already under investigation, is not in the best interest of Nigeria.
“A nationwide strike now because of an isolated incident in just one state that is already being addressed is not in Nigeria’s interest,” he stated.
While acknowledging the importance of addressing grievances, Murray-Bruce cautioned against using a national strike as a tool to settle personal scores, stressing that it could have adverse effects on the nation’s interest.
He emphasized that power should be wielded responsibly to promote economic and democratic progress rather than settling personal disputes.
“I call on the Nigerian Labour Congress to be rational and put the national interest first and let peace reign,” wrote Murray-Bruce.
The nationwide strike, declared by NLC and TUC, is a response to the assault on NLC Chairman, Joe Ajaero, by the Nigeria Police in Imo State.
