In a bid to pave the way for better business opportunities in 2024, Rev. William Effiok, former Director of Food Registration and Regulatory Affairs at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has advised members of the Premium Bread makers Association of Nigeria to prioritize compliance with regulatory standards.
Effiok shared this insight on Sunday during the 2023 Day Out for the Premium Bread makers Association of Nigeria held in Lagos. The event brought together key stakeholders in the baking industry, aiming to address the persistent challenges faced by bread makers, particularly in light of the economic downturn affecting the country’s manufacturing sector.
Emphasizing the importance of regulatory compliance, Effiok stressed that adhering to regulatory requirements is essential for maintaining quality and ensuring that consumers have access to healthy and safe bread products. He warned against allowing quackery and sharp practices among bread makers, emphasizing the need for structures that curb unwholesome practices within the Premium Bread makers Association of Nigeria.
Speaking on the theme, “Overcoming business challenges in the baking industry under harsh economic realities,” Effiok highlighted the significance of preparedness and structural integrity in navigating the complex economic landscape.
In a related statement, Mrs. Eva Edwards, Director of Food Safety and Applied Nutrition at NAFDAC, reiterated the agency’s commitment to upholding standards and ensuring the quality of regulated products. She acknowledged the challenges faced by businesses in the current environment, including the removal of fuel subsidies, fluctuating exchange rates, and infrastructural issues, all of which pose threats to the sustainability of the baking industry.
