India, the top-ranked team in the International Cricket Council, showcased their cricketing prowess in a commanding display against the Netherlands at the ICC World Cup group stage. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul delivered outstanding performances, setting the stage for an impressive semi-final showdown.

Hosts of the Cricket World Cup 2023, India, continued their stellar run by securing a resounding 160-run victory over the Netherlands in Bengaluru. The win extended their unbeaten streak to nine victories out of nine games, as they posted a formidable 410-4, just three runs short of their World Cup best against Bermuda in 2007.

Shreyas Iyer played a pivotal role, top-scoring with an unbeaten 128 from 94 balls, while KL Rahul completed a century in the final over before being dismissed for 102. Rahul’s hundred in 62 balls marked the fastest by an Indian batter at a World Cup, and his fourth-wicket partnership of 208 with Iyer ensured a dominant Indian performance.

Reflecting on the team’s strategy, India’s captain Rohit Sharma emphasized the importance of taking one game at a time. He stated, “It’s important for us to break it down and focus on one game and play it well. That’s what everyone did. We’ve been very clinical from game one until today. Different individuals have stepped up at different points.”

Netherlands’ captain, Scott Edwards, acknowledged India’s pure class with the bat and commended their ability to absorb pressure. He recognized the challenge posed by India, stating, “They’re going to be a hard side to beat in the rest of the tournament. As for ourselves, we’re a young side still, and it’s about growth for us.”

With the semi-final lineup confirmed, India is set to face New Zealand, who are positioned fourth on the table, in Mumbai on Wednesday. The clash promises to be a thrilling encounter as two cricketing powerhouses vie for a spot in the coveted World Cup final. Additionally, Australia will take on South Africa in Kolkata a day later, adding to the excitement of the tournament’s knockout stages.
