NSCDC Arrests 15 Suspects in FCT

During a scaled-up routine night operations, operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) FCT Command, arrested 15 suspected vandals, scavengers and miscreants vandalizing critical infrastructure within the FCT.

The FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu while parading the suspects at the FCT Command Headquarters in Abuja, said the suspects were caught in different parts of the territory in the night committing various forms of crimes ranging from vandalism of public property, stealing, snatching of bags, phones and attacking innocent citizens under the guise of scavenging.

The Commandant mentioned that the arrested suspects would be dealt with in accordance with the law so as to make them responsible for their actions as well as to serve as a warning to others not to engage in such behaviors. He emphasized that activities such has this has led to significant degradation of critical public properties and utilities which causes potential risks to the general public’s safety.

“The act of vandalism is not only a crime but it also inhibits the effective functioning of critical infrastructure.

“Critical infrastructures are vital to the survival of our nation, and any encumbrance on them poses great risk to our security, safety and other essential services,” Odumosu said.

He further explained, “We are resolute in enforcing this ban, safeguarding public infrastructure in the FCT and this effort will be sustained till we achieve sanity in the territory.

“We are going to take more robust measures to address this menace (vandalism) in the FCT once and for all,” he held.

Some of the items that were recovered from the suspects include; three reflective jackets, burglary irons, hammer, one Lexus ES 330 vehicle used in conveying stolen items, four spanners, vandalized transmission cables, a climbing Belt, screwdriver, one pumping machine, three measuring tapes, a compass, hacksaw, sets of ladies’ earrings, bags, one cart and a helmet
