Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has formally accepted the Supreme Court’s ruling on Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, confirming his party’s transition into the opposition.
During a world press conference at his campaign headquarters in Abuja, Obi expressed disappointment in the Supreme Court’s decision affirming President Bola Tinubu’s victory. He pledged to take their message of a new Nigeria to the people in various settings, including their homes, schools, and motor parks.
Obi emphasized their commitment to remaining in the Labour Party as the opposition and continuing to exert pressure on the Federal Government to uphold the right course of action.
He stated, “We in the Labour Party and the Obidient Movement are now effectively in opposition. We shall expand our message of hope to various parts of the country, meeting people where they face challenges and addressing their need for hope in marketplaces, motor parks, town halls, boardrooms, and educational campuses. We will remain loyal to our manifesto, advocate for good governance, and champion issues that promote national unity and cohesion.”
“Given the current national circumstances, a strong political opposition is crucial. We will persist as the opposition because the policies and governance methods we advocated for are not the priorities of the present administration. Our goal remains the restructuring of Nigeria to benefit all citizens,” Obi added.
In conclusion, he expressed gratitude to all Nigerians who have supported their efforts and emphasized their commitment to a “new and restructured Nigeria” that serves the interests of all Nigerians
