The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of the critical transport artery between Costain and Alaka descent in order to prevent further damage and protect the structural integrity of the Eko Bridge. The decision was made in reaction to the impending threat of expansion joint vandalism and theft, which would need the repair of missing portions and the recasting of transition concrete around the expansion joint.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed these essential repair works in a press statement released on Friday. The statement also provides guidance to motorists, advising them to use the Costain Ramp as an alternative route to access Alaka via the Costain Roundabout during the bridge’s closure.

The Eko Bridge is scheduled to be closed starting from 4:00 am on Saturday, November 4, 2023, and is expected to reopen on Monday, November 6, 2023. To ensure a smooth traffic flow and provide security, the statement assures the deployment of an adequate number of traffic and security personnel in the construction zones and along the alternative routes. Motorists are encouraged to cooperate with these personnel, exhibit patience, and adhere to safety measures while the repairs are underway.
