Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the newly elected senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, fully commenced her duties by taking the oath of office during a Senate plenary session on Thursday. Mr. Chinedu Akubueze, Senate Clerk, delivered the oath at 11:41 a.m.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio presided over the ceremony, presenting Akpoti-Uduaghan with a copy of the Senate Standing Rules and extending a welcoming handshake. Following this, she was escorted to her designated seat by the sergeant at arms and warmly greeted by her fellow senators.
This significant moment in the Senate follows the recent affirmation of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s status as the validly elected candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial Election, which took place on February 25th of the current year.
The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, ruled in her favor, dismissing the appeal filed by Senator Abubakar Ohere. The court’s decision solidified Akpoti-Uduaghan’s rightful claim to victory after the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja had previously nullified Ohere’s initial victory in September.
