Anambra State Government officials, in collaboration with the state police command, have successfully rescued two minors and 18 young girls who were being forced into prostitution during a recent raid on a hotel located in Oba community, within the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

The raid operation was launched on Wednesday in response to a tip-off provided by a concerned whistleblower who had noticed ongoing suspicious activities in the vicinity of the hotel.

The two minors, found among the rescued individuals, have been promptly taken to a medical facility for thorough health check-ups and possible treatment, as directed by the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.

Speaking shortly after the operation, the state’s Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, lauded the dedicated efforts of the security operatives involved in the rescue mission.

Obinabo expressed her commitment to ensuring that justice is served and expressed deep concern over the persistence of illicit activities like human trafficking, despite the government’s ongoing efforts to combat them.

She stated, “Prior to the raid, the ministry conducted a comprehensive investigation, revealing that the ‘Ten Top’ hotel in Oba was actively involved in trafficking girls from various parts of the country for prostitution purposes.”
