Prominent Nigerian journalist and political commentator, Dele Momodu, recently raised questions about Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s comments regarding resolving a rumored feud with his successor, Governor Sim Fubara. In a statement, Wike alluded to “the party” looking for ways to settle the alleged dispute, leaving many to wonder whether he was referring to the APC or PDP.

Wike, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), gained attention for his role in the 2023 Presidential election. Despite his party affiliation, he openly supported the then-All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who eventually emerged as the winner of the election.

The crux of Wike’s grievance was the PDP’s decision to nominate a Northerner, Atiku Abubakar, as its flagbearer for the 2023 election, after which he failed to secure the party’s chairmanship for a southerner. This decision prompted Wike to distance himself from the PDP and align more closely with the APC. He has since been actively involved in the APC government.

As the rift between Wike and his successor continues to make headlines, Dele Momodu’s question regarding which party “the party” refers to underscores the complexity of political alliances and the intrigue surrounding Wike’s shifting loyalties.

This ongoing story is a testament to the dynamic nature of Nigerian politics and the evolving alliances among key political figures. Observers are keenly watching to see how this situation will unfold and whether Wike’s efforts to mend fences will have lasting implications for his political career.
