Prof. Barika Saro-Laka, the Joint-Chair of the Ogoni Kingdom Development Forum, has made a compelling plea to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to consider a change in the leadership of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP). In particular, Saro-Laka has recommended the appointment of either Dr. Life Kaanagbara or Dr. John Idamkue as the new Project Coordinator for HYPREP.
Saro-Laka’s appeal stems from a concern that Khana Local Government Area (LGA) has never had the opportunity to provide a Project Coordinator for HYPREP. He emphasized the importance of fairness, justice, and decorum in the selection of leadership for this crucial environmental remediation project.
During a press briefing held in Abuja, Saro-Laka expressed his disappointment with the past performance of individuals appointed to oversee the cleanup of Ogoni land. He asserted that despite significant financial investments, previous leaders had “woefully failed in delivering the official mandate of HYPREP.”
The call for a leadership change within HYPREP reflects the Ogoni Kingdom Development Forum’s commitment to ensuring that the cleanup efforts in Ogoni land are carried out efficiently and effectively.
