Former President Muhammadu Buhari has welcomed Thusday’s decision by the Supreme Court to dismiss the appeals of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), considering it a relief not only for himself but for the majority of Nigerian citizens.

In a statement signed by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s spokesperson, the former president reiterated his sentiments, originally expressed after the September 6th verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Court, which upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory. He stated that this latest decision reaffirms the will of the majority of the Nigerian people in the face of determined opposition from a vocal minority.

“Now that we have reached the final stage of this lengthy and costly legal journey, lasting eight months, our nation deserves respite. The opposition has put up a commendable fight, but having fully exercised their constitutional rights, they should embrace the hand of fellowship extended by the Tinubu/Shettima-led government. It is time to allow the government to govern and the people to reap the full benefits of the promises made by the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

Former President Buhari expressed concern about the low voter turnout across the country, particularly in urban areas, and called for a shift in this trend. He emphasized the importance of active participation and the vibrancy of democracy in Nigeria.
