Wike Issues Ultimatum for Ground Rent Payment, Pledges to Tackle Abandoned Projects

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has issued a stern warning to individuals with outstanding ground rent payments in the Territory. He urged them to promptly settle their dues, affirming that after the grace period, he would take decisive actions by revoking plots of defaulters.

During separate meetings with the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo, and the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, James Chrisoff, Wike reiterated this stance. He emphasized that his words should not be dismissed as mere bravado, often referred to as ‘initial gra-gra’ locally, and that he would take concrete steps once the payment deadline passes.

Addressing the NUJ leadership, the minister declared that the era of abandoned projects in the FCT is now a thing of the past. He attributed this achievement to the President’s action in removing the FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA). As a result, the FCT has seen increased savings from its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which will be channeled into ongoing projects to ensure their continual funding and completion.
