The Screening and Verification Committee responsible for scrutinizing the employment of workers at the end of the former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration has disclosed that a total of 13,916 employees were recruited, as opposed to the initially reported 10,800.
This revelation comes from a statement released by Musa Garba, the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Civil Service Commission. The statement was made available to journalists on Wednesday.
Dr. Umar Minjibir, the Chairman of the Committee and also the State Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, presented the committee’s findings to the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi on Tuesday.
The Committee, inaugurated on August 16, 2023, had a mandate that included reviewing the recruitment of 10,800 workers hired during Ganduje’s administration. This review was prompted by concerns about violations of civil service rules and nepotism during the hiring process.
Minjibir stated, “Out of the 13,916 recruited workers, only 12,566 underwent screening, while the remaining 1,350 did not participate or present themselves for the exercise.” He highlighted that the committee meticulously addressed the issue and made extensive recommendations in accordance with its terms of reference, expressing hope that the state government would find these recommendations valuable.
Dr. Baffa Bichi, the Secretary to the State Government, expressed his gratitude to the committee for their thorough work and stated that the state government would carefully consider their findings to take necessary actions. This disclosure sheds light on the actual number of workers recruited during the previous administration, emphasizing the importance of transparency and adherence to established rules and regulations in the employment process.
