The Lagos State Government on Sunday closed down markets, including the Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association (ASPAMDA) and the BBA market, located within the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex in Ojo Local Government Area.
The closure was initiated due to alleged environmental infractions observed in the area.
This enforcement operation was conducted in collaboration with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and involved the participation of the Lagos Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offenses, as well as the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC).
The clampdown on environmental nuisance forms part of the ongoing efforts to enhance environmental sanitation in the state.
Kunle Adeshina, the Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, affirmed the enforcement in a social media post. He stated that these actions were in compliance with the directives issued by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
Adesina clarified that the enforcement measures were put in place due to several factors, including poor waste disposal practices, non-payment for waste disposal services, and general violations related to environmental sanitation.
