Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has called upon his fellow senators to collaborate and rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s ambitious development agenda for the nation. Akpabio emphasized that this plan represents a significant step forward for Nigeria, unlike any seen since the days of the nation’s founding fathers.

Akpabio made this appeal while addressing participants at the Senate Retreat on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, organized by the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies in Akwa Ibom State on Thursday.

He stressed the importance of unity and constructive engagement in supporting President Tinubu’s roadmap for the nation. He highlighted the need for cooperation between the legislative and executive branches to refine and implement this comprehensive development plan.

Akpabio stated, “Today, more than ever before, we must come together in optimism to support the roadmap of Mr. President and where we consider that changes may be appropriate, work with the executive to perfect the document.”

He urged senators to adhere to the development strategy set out by President Tinubu, noting that Nigeria’s founding fathers once followed a well-defined path to national development, during which the country held a position of distinction globally.

Akpabio underscored the unique nature of President Tinubu’s development plan, which targets critical sectors of the economy and aims to eliminate economic inefficiencies. He called on senators to provide a strong foundation for this ambitious initiative and to serve as dedicated representatives of the people.

President Tinubu, who officially inaugurated the retreat, decried the fact that 65 percent of Nigerians, equating to 84 million people, are currently living in multidimensional poverty. His remarks reinforced the urgency of addressing economic challenges and disparities in the country.
